Laura Orzehoski is a Philadelphia-based trombonist who is currently enrolled in Jazz Studies at Temple University under the direction of Terell Stafford. She studies under trombonists Rob Edwards and Mark Patterson as a full-time student at Temple. Although a classically trained pianist since the age of seven, Laura took up jazz trombone and piano at eleven. She has been performing locally at churches, retirement homes, and school events since the age of ten on pieces that represent her classical and jazz playing on both instruments.
Laura is currently the former lead trombonist in the New York Youth Symphony Big Band under a member of the all-female big band, The Grace Fox Big Band and a member of the Grammy nominated Temple University Jazz Band. She also leads her own group The Laura Orzehoski Sextet which performs locally at Jazz Festivals to more well-known venues like Chris’ Jazz Cafe.
More recently, Laura has performed at multiple venues across the East Coast with the Temple University Jazz Band at Rose Hall and Dizzy’s Jazz Club at Jazz at the Lincoln Center in New York City along with the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Laura has had the pleasure of performing with The Grace Fox Big Band at Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Birdland Jazz Club, and the Center Stage in Times Square, New York City.
Although still a full-time student, Laura has had the pleasure to study with well-known trombonists Chris Crenshaw and Vincent Gardner of the Jazz at the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra along with local Philadelphia trombonists Randy Kapralick and Jarred Antonacci. She currently studies under the lead trombonist of the Village Vanguard, Robert Edwards. Laura is currently featured on the Grace Fox Big Band debut album "Eleven O’ Seven”. The band took the stage at Birdland Jazz in March 2022 to perform the original music of trumpeter Grace Fox and continues to play in New York City.
As the former lead trombonist in the NYYS Big Band, she has had the pleasure to play at Birdland with the ensemble in December 2021 and Dizzy’s Jazz Club in March 2022 featuring the famous saxophonist, Melissa Aldana, performing her original music. Laura also performs in multiple ensembles at Temple University including those under the direction of Terell Stafford, Jon Shaw, Dan Monaghan, and Mark Patterson. Laura currently bandleaders her Sextet across the Philadelphia area.
