Ken Fowser’s New York Showcase

with John Dokes and Hilary Gardner

New York based tenor saxophonist, Ken Fowser, has quickly developed a reputation as one of the finest jazz musicians of his generation. While building upon a strong foundation steeped in the jazz tradition, Fowser continues to develop his own unique voice and style as a saxophonist and composer. Mostly noted for his full bodied tone, linear approach to jazz harmony and commitment to swing, Ken has already made a name for himself among local and international jazz audiences alike.

John Dokes

Vocalist John Dokes has stepped into the spotlight using his wryly smooth baritone to delight audiences weekly at Jazz Clubs throughout New York City. Singing a mixture of blues, ballads and jazz standards his unmistakable swinging delivery is entirely his own while harkening back to greats like Nat King Cole and Joe Williams. Hilary Gardner

I'm a singer and writer living in Brooklyn, New York. I share my August 22 birthday with Dorothy Parker, John Lee Hooker, Claude Debussy, and Kristen Wiig.

I grew up in Wasilla, Alaska, where my first gigs were singing Patsy Cline tunes in dive bars. I became immersed in classical voice study but spent all my free time singing along with records by Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Joni Mitchell, and Tom Waits, to name just a few.

I was indeed willing to be lucky when I moved to New York, and New York has been very generous to me. Since my arrival in 2003, I’ve sung in operas, big bands, small bands, a vocal jazz quartet, and a country band. I made a cameo on a Moby record, and once I even performed the national anthem at CitiField for the New York Mets. I made my Broadway debut singing in Twyla Tharp’s Frank Sinatra musical, Come Fly Away. When I’m not performing or rehearsing music, I’m usually writing about creativity, food, or this city I love so much.
