Guitarists Leo Steinriede, Aaron Matson & Their Quartet
Aaron Matson is a North Carolina native, originally hailing from Denver. He started playing guitar at the age of eleven, eventually finding his voice in jazz. Matson is a recent graduate of The Juilliard School, where he received his Masters in jazz studies. Matson has performed at The Kennedy Center, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Chris’ Jazz Café in Philly, Smalls Jazz Club, Ornithology, Yoshi’s in Oakland, the Chat Bavard in Rennes, France, and the Bern Jazz Festival in Switzerland, among many others.
Since 2023, Aaron has been a member of Bryan Eng’s Circle Room trio which holds a residency at Bemelman’s Bar in the legendary Carlyle Hotel in New York’s Upper East Side. In 2021, Matson was commissioned by FENDI and the Juilliard School to compose a piece entitled “Rollerblading in Harlem” for a collaboration video.
Matson’s most ambitious project is the Aaron Matson Nonet, a nine-piece ensemble which released its debut album, Holding on to Yesterday, in July of 2019. He is an avid composer and arranger, having penned arrangements for many groups including The Duke University Jazz Ensemble, the Planet D Nonet out of Detroit and the Jazz Ensemble at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Aaron also holds a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Guitar from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Leo Steinriede is a New York based guitarist and composer. A native of Philadelphia, he studied at the Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts and Settlement Music School with Philadelphia jazz icons Lovett Hines, Monnette Sudler, Bobby Zankel, and Tony Miceli. Leo’s big band composition “The Rhetorical Situation” was chosen by Ted Nash and Wynton Marsalis as the winner of the Essentially Ellington Composition Contest.
Since then, he has continued honing his craft and composed many new works, including commissioned arrangements for Kurt Rosenwinkel and Mike Moreno. In 2023, Leo’s piece “PB Highway” was performed by Peter Bernstein at Ithaca College. Additionally, he was a runner-up in the first French National Jazz Composition contest held in Paris. During the summer of 2023, Leo participated in the prestigious JAS Aspen Academy led by Chuck Bergeron and the Elbphilharmonie Summer Jazz Academy in Hamburg led by Anat Cohen where he performed alongside jazz greats including Sullivan Fortner and Donny McCaslin.
Leo now resides in New York where he is mentored by David Berger, and studies guitar with Mike Moreno and Chris Rosenberg at the Manhattan School of Music.
